Whether you’re a regular fisherman, or fancy trying your hand for the first time, then Craggan Fishery – open from April to October – offers the best value and the most scenic setting in the Aviemore and Cairngorms area. Our purpose-dug ponds cover an area of about 3 acres and are set in the middle of our golf course, with fantastic views of the Cairngorms and the Cromdale hills.

With six ponds from which to choose, it is easy to find yourself a quiet corner where you can while away a few hours in peace and tranquility while trying to tempt one of our fish out of the water. We welcome all, from the complete beginner to the seasoned pro, on your own or in a group. Whilst primarily a fly fishery, we are happy for visitors to use whichever method they favour, be it spinning, float, or of course flying. The ponds are stocked with rainbow trout at the beginning of April, and thereafter every few weeks through the season to ensure that there are always plenty out there to try and catch. They tend to be partial to a diet of worms or sweetcorn, as well as flies. Our catch book is available to view and this shows catches mostly around the 3/4 to 1lb mark, up to 2lb.

A ticket costs £20, with no time limit – the fishery opens at 10 am – other than when the fishery closes at 5.30 pm. This allows you to catch and release as many as you’re able, and to keep one fish. No problem if you wish to keep more, with there just being an additional fee of £5 per fish. For the avoidance of doubt, please note that our fishery is not ‘fishing in a bucket’, so we offer no guarantees that every fisherman will catch something, as this comes down to a combination of skill, conditions & luck on any given day.

Glen of Rothes has 6 acres of water, set in magnificent Highland scenery in the Northeast of Scotland, and provides excellent Stillwater bank fishing for Rainbow trout, as well as for Browns, Steelheads, Blue rainbows, and Brook trout. The Lochs are mainly fly-only, but there is also a smaller dedicated bait loch as well. Whether you are an expert or just looking to try something new during your holiday, there is no need to book ahead - just come to the lodge to buy your day or part-day permit, and you will receive friendly advice on what flies and tackle to use (rods and landing nets are available for hire if you don't have your own).

The lochs are stocked on a regular basis, and daily during the summer, to ensure a steady head of fish that will give a challenging but highly rewarding day's fishing. The average weight of each fish caught has been steady at 2lb ever since the Fishery opened in 1994, and the record for the heaviest rainbow trout stands at 15lb 11oz  Catches of over 30 fish for a day are quite achievable for those who have got to know the water and how it fishes - experienced staff are nearly always on hand to give advice and free tuition, but for tuition, it is advisable to ring and book beforehand.

Wardend is just 4 ½ miles South of Elgin and the fishery has been located in a quiet sheltered valley where the constructed loch extends to almost five acres and has a spring-fed water supply.

The main loch is stocked on a regular basis to maintain good catch levels with fish from 2 - 5lbs and there are reports of over-wintered fish to 8lbs having been released.

The clear spring water will provide an angling challenge and considerable new landscape planting will increasingly supplement natural fly and insect life.  It is expected that buzzers and nymphs will be the method of choice and top-of-the-water sport will excel in the warmer weather.  The clear water means winter nymphing is great, though more challenging.

Depths range from 5-11 feet and a floating line covers most situations
