The Castle Angling Club controls fishing on both banks of the Black Cart Water. The river runs for some six miles from its source in the Castle Semple Loch catchment, near Lochwinnoch, to its confluence with the River Gryffe at the "Junction Pool" which is located between Glasgow Airport and the M8 motorway. On its way, it skirts Howwood, Johnstone, and Linwood. Most parts of the river are freely accessible.
The Black Cart constitutes part of the Clyde system and as well as indigenous brown trout and coarse fish species, it increasingly enjoys substantial runs of migratory sea trout and Atlantic salmon. Brown trout levels are maintained by means of a twice-yearly stocking of prime-quality mature brown trout.

The Kelvin’s total length is 34 kilometers from its source at Wyndford to its confluence with the Clyde at Partick. The river offers a remarkable variety of fishing opportunities due to its length and nature – starting as a meandering stream crossing flood plains and ending as a dramatic river that runs through a wooded gorge through one of the UK’s largest and most industrialized cities
For a century its weirs and dams impeded the spawning of salmon and the waste from industry killed all invertebrates and trout.
However, the river now teems with life – the Salmon are returning and good trout can be caught along its whole length.

A permit is required for the entire river – no section is excluded – the boundary extends approx a half mile below the mouth of the Kelvin and up to Dalmarnock Bridge on the Clyde.
Season permits are available at Glasgow Angling Centre, and online through www.fishkelvin.com. Currently, the cost is £55 per season for existing members with concessions for people who are disabled or pensioners (£45). For new members the permit is £75 (concession £65)
Under-18s can fish for free as long as they are with an adult member who has a permit. Any under 18 (who wants to fish without an accompanying member) can obtain a permit for free, they must complete the form on the website.

Loch Shiel estate owns the north bank of the River Shiel along the entire length of the river. The river is well known as a famous salmon and trout river although in common with other rivers on the west coast of Scotland, catches have declined in recent years.
To help increase fish stocks a hatchery has been established and 40,000 to 80,000 salmon fry are raised and introduced to the river system every year from the estate hatchery. This has recently been expanded with the establishment of two further hatcheries on the river system.
Effective management and conservation are helping to arrest the decline in salmon numbers and improve fishing. Fishing is organized by arrangement with the owners of the south bank in a two-beat system fishing both banks of the upper part and then the lower part of the river for half a day each. A catch-and-release policy has been adopted
This is a pretty river with a great variety of fishing along its length, from wading where the loch feeds into the river to fishing off stages at the house pools and attractive fishing at the bottom of the river where the river flows into the sea

Busby Angling Association has a Crown Salmon Lease for the middle stretch of the White Cart Water a belated tributary of the Clyde. Our lease extends from the weir just before the village of Waterfoot downstream to the road bridge at Crookston at Rosshall: which is approximately 9 miles on both banks. As part of the same lease we also have, approximately, 4 miles of the Levern Water from the weir at Gateside downstream to its confluence with the Cart at Crookston plus all tributaries. eg Auldhouse Burn, Brock Burn, Broom Burn, Capelrig Burn, Kittoch Water, and Thortonhall Burn.
There are 3 game species of fish in our waters, salmon, sea, and brown trout as well as coarse fishes however the Association does not allow for coarse fishing within the river.
All legal methods are acceptable however the Association does not like set lining and insists that a) only one rod is to be used b) this must be hand-held at all times and c) set lining is not appreciated nor is any form of ground baiting.
