Inverness Angling Club

River Ness
Near Inverness
Highland
Scotland

Ceud Mile Failte - A hundred thousand welcomes to the website of Inverness Angling Club. Our club is one of Scotland’s premier angling associations dedicated to providing rewarding and affordable game angling for all. We can promise you enjoyable angling on a beautiful river that has built a solid reputation for its catches of salmon, grilse, and sea trout - and traditional Highland hospitality.

These clear, sparkling waters, fed by the famed Loch Ness, have delivered decades of delight to the region’s anglers and visitors from many parts of the UK and the world. A range of attractive pools offers interesting double-bank fishing. Like most salmon rivers, catches have fluctuated over the last few years. But there’s always the chance of a fish. The five-year average in 2022 was 113 salmon and grilse and the 10-year average was 148.

Website: Lairg Angling Club

Lairg Angling Club is situated on the north side of Loch Shin about 1 mile west of the Sutherland village of Lairg.  The Club has boats available for hire on 3 local lochs, Shin Craggie, and Beannach.

The biggest of these lochs is Shin at over 17 miles long. Trout in this loch average 1/2 to 3/4 lb although there are some very large fish lurking in the depths and double-figure trout are caught quite regularly.   There is also the possibility of the occasional Salmon.  Although primarily a fly fishing water, spinning and bait fishing are allowed on Shin although set lines are banned in common with most other fisheries.  Both boat and bank fishing are allowed.

Loch Beannach lies to the northwest of Shin and contains a healthy stock of hard-fighting brown trout averaging 3/4 lb. Fishing is by fly only and the use of petrol outboards is not allowed although electric outboards are permitted. Bank fishing is allowed although boat fishing seems to produce better results.

The jewel of our lochs is Craggie which lies in the hills to the north of Lairg village and the boat is only available to club members.  A magical place when the Mayfly hatch is on with fish averaging 1 lb +. No petrol outboards or bank fishing allowed.
