Brief history Kilmarnock Angling Club
Kilmarnock Angling was formed in 1889 and was one of the first to be established on the River Irvine system.

For years because the river was in the main industrial belt in the West of Scotland pollution was a major problem. It was not until legislation forced the polluters, the mills, foundries, etc to clean up the river that Brown Trout, Salmon, and Seatrout started to appear again.

Over the years anglers started to clear the river and its tributaries improving the whole environment. Member clubs in the River Irvine Angling Association asked the Ayrshire Rivers trust biologists to give a “Habitat and an Electro Fishing Survey” it showed the improvements required on the Kilmarnock stretch.
