River Almond

Salmon, sea trout & brown trout allow the perfect opportunity for rod fishing along the banks of the River Almond to its mouth by Cramond village. The river is very easily accessible from Edinburgh and lies just to the east of the airport. The rights to fish this stretch of river are let to Cramond Angling Club.

The Cramond Angling Club has 4 beats, 8 miles of (mostly) double bank fishing for Season Ticket and Day Tickets on the River Almond just south of Newbridge and Cramond. There is good access to most parts of the river. For those who travel by public transport, getting to the river by Barnton/Cramond is not difficult at all, as bus routes are just minutes away. Service 41 operated by Lothian Buses runs from the South West of Edinburgh via the city centre down to Cramond,

The main species are Brown Trout and Sea Trout. Salmon have also been caught although in a very small number.

Border Esk

The Border Esk is one of the best sea trout rivers in southern Scotland.

Much of the available fishing on the Border Esk and Liddle extending to some twenty miles, is owned by the Buccleuch Estates and now leased by the Border Esk and Liddel Fishing Club, with much of the fishing available to both local and visiting anglers on a day, weekly or season permit.

Formed in 2011, The Border Esk and Liddel Angling Club exists to promote the interests of members and visitors alike. A not-for-profit organisation, the club actively seeks to protect and develop the Border Esk and Liddel Water.

Flowing through beautiful countryside with much of the bankside wooded with native hardwoods anglers have access to four beats. Border Esk; Canonbie 4 miles double bank; Langholm 4 miles mixed double & single bank. River Liddel; Lower Liddel 6 miles single bank, Newcastleton 4 miles single & double bank. With 18 miles of water to choose from, you can normally expect the rivers to be generally fast flowing and with beds of rock outcrop or pebble shingle with no natural weed growth. With the exception of high water, the Esk is normally ‘Gin Clear’ and although the Liddel often carries a peat stain this does not have an adverse effect on the fishing.
