The 700-acre Lake of Menteith is the main venue for the National Fly Fishing Championships in Scotland. The Lake is stocked weekly, with an even distribution by boat, with top-quality rainbow and brown trout that are reared in the location by Lake Staff. The 34-strong fleet of well-maintained boats is equipped with reliable outboards, oars, landing nets, and drogues. More boats can be made available for major events.

 

The large fishery cabin has a permit office and tackle shop with a good range of flies and tippets. There is also a snack bar (open before sessions and sells snacks and hot rolls and tea/coffee) and a large covered weigh-in area and howff with a log burner and washroom facilities.

 

The low-lying situation and indented nature of the Loch and islands mean that shelter is available from most wind directions. The loch is predominantly shallow and surface fishing tactics predominate.

Swanswater offers fly and bait fishing from top-quality trout.

The main water, Swanswater, is some 10 acres in size and offers fly-fishing from the bank for up to 30 rods plus 3 boats for hire.  The Millpond offers fly and bait fishing (catch and take only), and the smallest pond, the Meadow Pond, is fly-only.   Catch and release are permitted on Swanswater and the Meadow Pond.

All three ponds are stocked with the same quality hard-fighting fish which are all reared on site.   Varieties stocked include Rainbow, Blue, Golden, Tiger, and Brown Trout.”

Wellsfield Trout Fishery in Scotland is one of the best and most popular day ticket fisheries (fly & bait) in Scotland.

• Lochan Hearadh - 5 acres of Fly Fishing from the bank (19ft deep, 45 pegs).

• Lochan Uaithne - 4 acres of Fly Fishing from the bank (18ft deep, 20 pegs).

• Lochan Fionn - 3 acres of Bait fishing from the bank (20ft deep, 25 pegs).

• 90 Fishing Pegs (some are wheelchair friendly).
