Cramond Angling Club

The Club formed on the 25th of September 1963 and is still growing and continues to get bigger each year. Here you can get all the information regarding angling on The River Almond around Cramond. Everything from the best places to start, conservation, kick sampling, and of course what flies are getting the fish to take some interest.

Our Aim

We aim to promote fishing on the River Almond, at a very affordable price. It is also the club's interest to maintain the river's general health and being. The club also runs some riverbank maintenance to keep it clean and accessible in conjunction with the Edinburgh Countryside Ranger Service and Dalmeny Estate.

What Do We Offer

4 beats, 8 miles of (mostly) double bank fishing for Season Ticket and Day Tickets on the River Almond between just south of Newbridge and Cramond. There is good access to most parts of the river. For those who travel by public transport, getting to the river by Barnton/Cramond is not difficult at all, as bus routes are just minutes away. Service 41 operated by Lothian Buses runs from the South West of Edinburgh via the city centre down to Cramond, Click To View Journey Planner

The main species are Brown Trout and Sea Trout. Salmon have also been caught although in a very small number.

The River Almond is now "Catch and Release" for all species.

The Avon Angling Club

The Avon Angling Club is a friendly fishing club whose home river is the 'Avon Water' which is known locally as the River Avon. The club has an open membership policy and aims to provide quality, affordable fishing for both the local and visiting angler.

The Club has been in existence for over 40 years and provides over 24 miles of river to fish for both migratory and non-migratory fish. The Club is keen to engage with both new and existing members throughout the year and offers information and casting tuition to help newcomers grasp the fundamental elements of the sport.

Membership is by annual subscription which helps cover the running costs of the Club. Being a member also entitles you to attend and vote at our regular monthly meetings which are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month in Stonehouse. Permits can be purchased from lots of local outlets or via our website. More information can be found on the permit information section.

The Club also operates a hatchery which is used all year round. The hatchery is used to rear trout from eggs to fry (small fish) over the winter time. Some of these fish are released into surrounding burns whilst some are held back to grow on. Anyone who is interested in seeing inside the hatchery is more than welcome to come along on any Saturday morning to visit.

If you are interested in helping out with club activities, we are always searching for volunteers. Our activities range from collecting rubbish from river banks to building styles to improve access and general maintenance. If you are interested in helping out our volunteers meet every Saturday morning from 9 am onwards at our clubhouse.

Linlithgow Angling Club

About us

It is all about fishing!

We do 4 things:

Fish for wild brown trout, sea trout, and salmon on the River Avon, in and around Linlithgow.

Manage the fishing environment on the River Avon.

Arrange fishing outings on local still waters.

Arrange occasional fishing social functions where we talk about fishing.

Become a member: –

In today's world, access to wild brown trout fishing not to mention the occasional sea trout or salmon, in season, is rarely so inexpensive. If your interest stretches beyond wild fishing there are regular outings and always river conservation work projects in which to become involved. See our news posts for details.

Why should you join us?….well here is one good reason a cracking fat brown trout caught by our senior river manager Alan Crawford, as you can see with a small nymph tied with a pheasant tail body, orange collar, titanium bead size 16/14 barbless hook. Typical of the excellent sport the river offers.

2023 membership renewal and new member application forms will now be processed online. This system will be activated soon and instructions on how to do this will be published soon.
