The Peeblesshire Trout Fishing Association offers excellent fishing for brown trout and grayling in Scotland, in the very heart of the Scottish Borders.
The Association permit allows fishing on approximately 23 miles of the River Tweed and 5 miles of the Lyne Water in the Peeblesshire area of Scotland with the exception of private stretches which are clearly marked with notice boards.
Season Tickets, and Day Permits are available for a modest cost and it is now possible to buy day tickets online.
The Association's season ticket also allows anglers to fish for winter grayling during the months of January, February, and March
Trout Season
The trout season extends from the 1st of April until the 30th of September.
Fishing is by fly only throughout the season. Anglers under 18 years of age may fish free of charge but only if they possess a valid free permit available from the outlets detailed on their website.
Please note that the Peeblesshire Trout Fishing Association now operates a strict catch-and-release policy for wild trout and grayling and anglers are requested to use barbless hooks and safely release all fish caught.
Permit costs for both local residents and visitors is £35 for the season and £10 for the day.
Lower North Wark (River Tweed)
The Lower North Wark beat is situated approximately 2 miles upstream of Coldstream Bridge on the Scottish side of the Tweed between Birgham and Coldstream.
The beat has been a solid performer over very many years. Currently top catches come from the Annaside, Ferrystream, and North Willows pools. At high water the Wall and the North Temple fish well. The beat performs at all river heights but particularly well at medium and low water levels.
Automatic readings of the exact water height from the Wark gauge are updated hourly and shown on the beat’s webpage. Tenants have the use of a comfortable fishing hut overlooking the Ferrystream pool and the ruins of Wark Castle.
Typically tenants take whole or half weeks but individual and daily lets will be considered on enquiry. Fishing is offered direct to tenants and no commission or other charges are payable.
Most Tweed Beats offer fishing to let either by the week or the day and often either for whole parties or individual rods. Prices vary depending on the time of the season. No statutory rod licenses are required to be purchased in order to fish within the Tweed catchment. Salmon vary in size. Smaller grilse are caught in the summer and the largest salmon are caught in the autumn. 39 salmon over 25 pounds in weight were caught in 2010. Fly fishing is the most popular way to fish but most beats permit spinning between 15th February and 15th September. Anglers should check the conditions of each beat before booking.
