Ayrshire’s largest river rises at Glenbuck Reservoir on the boundary of Ayrshire and Lanarkshire and flows westwards 63 kilometres to its estuary at Ayr on the Firth of Clyde. It has a catchment area of 574 sq. kilometres and its principal tributaries include the Greenock Water, Lugar Water, Water of Fail and Water of Coyle.
The Ayr AA, Craigie has salmon fishing on the Craigie stretch of the River Ayr. Cost is £10 per day £25 weekly or £40 all season and can be purchased from Gamesport Sandgate Ayr.
Ayr Angling Club permits are £76 + £10 joining fee. also purchase from Gamesport which gives you access to Loch Bradan, Loch Shankston & Loch Snipe. The River Ayr Nethermills, Overmills & Gadgirth.

The headwaters of the River Doon are the burns and streams feeding Loch Doon from the north edge of the Galloway Forest Park. The river is just over 63 kilometers long (including the Loch) and flows northwest close to the town of Dalmellington, through the villages of Patna and Dalrymple before entering the Firth of Clyde just south of Ayr.
The River Doon District Salmon Fishery Board manages the protection, enhancement and conservation of the Atlantic salmon and sea trout stocks in the River Doon. It also has a duty to ensure the general protection and enhancement of the fishery.

The Carrick Angling Club offers more than 3 miles of river fishing on the river Girvan, from Old Dailly all the way downstream to Newton Kennedy Bridge at Noble's boat yard in Girvan. We have single-bank fishing and double-bank fishing, for salmon, sea trout, and wild brown trout. Part of the river bank has wheelchair access.
The club also has a well-stocked reservoir with rainbow trout and blue trout, fly fishing only, to suit all angler's needs.

The River Stinchar has its headwaters in the Carrick Forest to the north of the Galloway Forest Park, only one kilometer from the source of the River Girvan. It has a main drainage course of 54km and initially flows north but for the majority of its length flows south-west via Barr, Pinwherry, and Colmonell, finally entering the sea at Ballantrae.
