The Trossachs and Loch Lomond are the perfect place for a good fishing experience.
There are lots of Lochs and Rivers with a range of different fish such as trout, salmon, pike perch and more. You can choose between some of the most beautiful lochs and rent a boat or do fishing from shore. Some fishing locations are easily accessible and have great facilities such as the Lake of Menteith near Aberfoyle, others are more isolated. There are also tackle shops in some towns and villages where you can purchase the equipment you need.
For fishing beginners, it is wise to look for a Ghillie, a Scottish fishing guide who can explain all the fishing techniques.
In general, the season for trout fishing is from 15th March to 6th October. Salmon season is usually from the 1st of February 31st of October but can also be from the 15th of January to the 15th of October depending on the loch or river.
Loch Achray
Loch Achray is a small freshwater loch located just below Ben A’an on the A821 and it can be reached by taking the A821 from Callander via Brig O’Turk or from Aberfoyle over the Dukes Pass. The loch lies between Loch Katrine and Loch Venacher in the heart of the Trossachs. Loch Achray is well known for its sheltered location.
Fishing Permits are available locally. Loch Achray is controlled by the Loch Achray Conservation Association.
Only fly fishing from boats is permitted. If you are fishing on Loch Achray please leave your cars in the Fishing Lodge Car Park and fishing is only allowed from Conservation owned boats.

Loch Arklet
Loch Arklet is a small loch lying between Loch Katrine to the East and Loch Lomond to the West. To get there you must take the Inversnaid road from Aberfoyle.
About 10 miles from Kinlochard you will come to a T junction, turn left for Inversnaid. Loch Arklet is the Loch on your left. There is a picturesque walk along the river from Loch Arklet to Loch Lomond which is steep in places. After the footbridge, there is a path leading to viewpoints between here and the Dam at Loch Arklet. The level of Loch Arklet was raised by the building of a dam, erected to supply Glasgow with water in the early part of the 20th century. As you travel along the shore of Arklet you will pass Corrie Arklet Farm where Rob Roy was married. Now the fishing rights for Loch Arklet are secured after being closed for a number of years, boats subject to availability are available so please book in advance at Loch Katrine Fisheries on 01877 386374. Fly fishing for brown trout is possible but is only permitted by boat. Petrol engines are not permitted, boat hire with electric engines is available from the Inversnaid end of the loch.

Loch Chon
Loch Chon is situated between Kinlochard and Inversnaid on the B829 Road. The loch is popular for picnics, cycling, walking, canoeing, and fishing.
The Loch is about 20km away from the village of Callander.
Fishing is allowed from the bank for brown trout, perch, and pike and the season is from March 15th till October 6th.

Loch Earn
Loch Earn lies between the villages of Lochearnhead and St Fillans in the Central Highlands. The name Loch Earn is thought to mean “Loch of Ireland”, suggesting that it might derive from a time when the gaels were expanding their kingdom.
A renowned fishing location, Loch Earn is regularly stocked with brown and rainbow trout;

Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of fresh water in the UK and has the largest variety of fish in the National Park. The loch has also a very good reputation for coarse fishing. Loch Lomond has been rated as one of the hardest lochs for pike fishing. The variety of fish reaches from sea trout to chub. Loch Lomond is also home to a protected fish species: the powan (a white fish). If caught, the fish should be returned quickly to the water.

Loch Tay

Loch Tay is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland, in the Perth and Kinross, and Stirling council areas. The watershed of Loch Tay traditionally formed the historic province of Breadalbane.
It is a long, narrow loch of around 14.55 miles (23.42 km) long, and typically around 1 to 1.5 miles (1.6 to 2.4 km) wide, following the line of the strath from the southwest to northeast. It is the sixth-largest loch in Scotland by area and over 150 meters (490 ft) deep at its deepest.
Loch Tay is a famous Scottish salmon fishing venue that is renowned for its productive boating approach through traditional tactical shoreline trolling.
The main hub for loch fishing is the village of Killin at the West end of this historic Scottish loch.
