River Findhorn

 

With its source high in the Monadhliath Mountains, 60 miles from the outflow at Findhorn on the Moray Firth, the River Findhorn is a most attractive salmon river, with a succession of deep pools and fast runs throughout its length. Up to 1000 salmon will be taken in a season with sea trout mainly in the lower beats.

 

Salmon fishing, however, is available to the visiting angler at a reasonable cost on the four miles of the Forres Angling Association water on the lower river. This is excellent association water.

 

The best months for sea trout is June to August. Expect to pay around £30 (to the end of May) to £40 for a day permit and £120 (to the end of May) to £185 for a week.

River Lossie

 

The River Lossie flows northwards through Morayshire to Elgin, entering the Moray Firth a few miles further on at Lossiemouth, in suitable conditions, the river can provide some excellent sea trout fishing, with up to 400+ sea trout being caught within the season.

 

The Lossie is a small spate river, sluggish in parts and overgrown in places. Some parts are suited to fly fishing, a single-handed rod being adequate. A number of sea trout are taken in the tidal section of the river at Lossiemouth. 

 

The lower 10 miles of the river are controlled by the Elgin & District Angling Association.
